Tuskegee Airmen Memorial, Sewickley Cemetery
Sewickley Valley Historical Society supports local preservation work, including rescuing some of the area’s most beloved landmarks.
We saved the four finials from the original 1911 Sewickley-Coraopolis Bridge, aided the restoration of the 1927 American-LaFrance Triple Fire Truck, and made contributions to the Pink House Restoration Fund and to a fund to replace the FAME Monument in Sewickley Cemetery.
Since 1987, SVHS has awarded excellence in historic preservation through its Preservation Award.

Sewickley Public Library
The 2026 SVHS Preservation Award recipient was Sewickley Public Library for their commitment to preservation and thoughtful renovations and expansions. SVHS noted the preservation of defining features such as its glazed tile roof, stone façade, and original windows, and the use of original building materials in expansions. The Sewickley Public Library plays a vital role in the community, blending historic character with improvements to meet modern needs.
Dr. Verna Corey
This award is given periodically, at the discretion of the SVHS board.
In 2026, we recognized Dr. Verna Corey for her ongoing preservation efforts at Wilpen Hall, the only surviving Gilded Age estate in the Sewickley Valley.
Numerous historic assets define the character of the Sewickley Valley, and are a source of pride and joy. All too frequently, however, organizations are unable to source funding for much-needed upkeep of these buildings, including restoration work, structural repairs, or outdoor public spaces. Recognizing the funding challenges faced by non-profits, religious institutions, and municipalities, the SVHS created a preservation grant program in 2018.
This monetary grant is given annually, if a suitable candidate meets the eligibility requirements. No grant was awarded in 2026.
